Our Message!

The proposed closure of Rocky Ridge Road will have devastating effects on the community and there is vibrant opposition to it. Viable alternatives that will render the proposed closure unnecessary do in fact exist! From a technical and financial point of view the proposed closure is unnecessary and all that is required to resolve this issue is political will!

Please voice your opinion, you can make a difference.

  1. Could you please state the viable alternatives you mention? We have lived in this community for 8 years and knew about the road closure and the planned LRT park and ride. Why have you waited til the last minute to do this petition? There were numerous signs about contacting the alderman in regards to the closure as well. Rocky Ridge road is a dangerous road and I for one would like it closed. People continue to fly up and down that road and pay no heed to the speed limit or the pedestrian cross walks. You take your life into your own hands when crossing that road or even trying to exit onto it from the Blvd. Why are we not concentrating our efforts on trying to make our other roads safer with flashing pedestrian lights or a few more speed limit signs? Maybe even a little re- education of the rules of the road. I do not believe that NOT closing that road will make our other roads safer and if we don't use this closure to our advantage and approach the province and the city for some funding for items that will make our roads safer we will miss out. If access is continued from Crowchild trail onto RR rd than what will happen to the 200 hundred parking stalls designated for the community? They will become available for others outside the community to use. Why are we not pressuring the developer to fast track Country Hills Blvd? This will alleviate some of the traffic coming off of CrowchildTrail. I am also puzzled as to why the community would put up a sign in regards to your plight? They have set a very dangerous precedent. What if I decide I don't want schools built even though the signs have been there since we have moved here and we knew they were going to be built at some time. I may decide to get a petition started. Do you believe that the community center will put up a sign saying there is a petition for those who don't want schools inside to come in and sign it? I have my doubts that they would. I would never do this because I consider myself an informed person and I knew about these schools before we built here. My point is that we have to be very careful as a COMMUNITY that we speek for the masses and not only a few. I am going to take a wait and
see attitude to your petition but in the meantime I will voice my concerns to my alderman and the community in this matter. We have to make the roads we have safer for all members in the community without delaying this project. Again I don't believe that will happen, if you succeed in keeping that road open. We will continue to have unsafe roads.
    Sincerely
    D Ferguson

  2. D,

We are more than a "few" community members as we have over 1,000 community residents on our side.

Let me assure you that safety is one of our top concerns!

In fact all the points and questions you raise are valid and attest to the complexity of this situation. We want to ensure that everyone realizes just how complex an issue this is before any decision is finalized, as much has changed since this plan was first conceived.

If you'd like to learn more about the alternatives we are exploring, please contact the group at r3c3@googlegroups.com or stay tuned to this website, as we will continue to update this site as progress is made.
